Mr. Spencer graduated from Samford University in 1995, and quickly moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career as a real estate generalist, he soon became a jack-of-all-trades real estate professional on the front lines of commercial real estate development. He spent several years with one of Nashville’s leading commercial real estate firms, the Charles Hawkins Company before partnering his own real estate development firm in 2002, Hewlett Spencer, LLC. Hewlett Spencer has constructed over 650 million square feet in commercial property, public schools and other government projects throughout Tennessee over a period of 23 years. In early 2014, James decided to combine his real estate expertise and his passion for the outdoors as the owner and operator of Mossy Oak Properties, Tennessee Land & Farm. In 2019 he lead his team to be named Mossy Oak Properties “Office of the Year” which is the top honor among all Mossy Oak Properties offices throughout the nation. Spencer was recently awarded the 2021 Fox Haas Award within Mossy Oak Properties. The Fox Haas Award, named after the iconic patriarch of the Mossy Oak brand, recognizes a member of the Mossy Oak Properties network that was nominated by their peers for possessing characteristics such as honor, integrity, and a servant’s heart.
For Spencer, joining the Mossy Oak Properties network was a logical move. “I am genuinely excited to be a part of the Mossy Oak Properties family and to have access to folks who share the same conservation and outdoor values that I was raised on. In combination with my real estate and development background that has always been relationship driven, this was a dream role for me. Being raised in a rural environment and surrounded by friends and family that also embraced the outdoors, it’s an obvious and natural fit to be involved with Mossy Oak. It’s no surprise that while living and working here in the City of Nashville, I’m usually thinking about how long it will be until I can be back out on the farm. Mossy Oak Properties, Tennessee Land and Farm brings to the table a desire to assist folks with a similar passion for the outdoors combined with proper land management and conservation techniques that fills a valuable need here in the Middle Tennessee area”.
